Grandma, Won't You Dance With Me is the 16th episode of Season 2 of Kids Incorporated and 42nd episode overall. In this episode, the kids help Ryan patch up his relationship with his grandmother Ruth (special guest star Gwen Verdon).

Plot SummaryEdit

As the kids are performing "Man in Motion (St. Elmo's Fire)"; Ryan's grandmother walks in to the P*lace. The kids are in the break room when Ruth walks in, attempting to talk with Ryan after a fight they had that morning (Ryan had lost his room when Ruth moved in); and causing the kids to crack up when she explains being called "fresh" (Renee and Gloria briefly attempt to explain the 1980s slang that got lost in translation) before going back on stage ("Rockin' Robin")

The crash course in 1980s slang quickly overwhelms Ruth; who explains why she had come there...to let Ryan know she was moving to a retirement home because she didn't feel needed; persisting despite Gloria's attempt to convince her to reconsider. Later, Ruth reminisces about her late husband Herbie and how they had first met at what was then called the Palace ("Forever").

Gloria then confronts Ryan about his attitude toward his grandmother; but Ryan initially dismisses it (his excuse: He was closer to his late grandfather); proceeding to brush Gloria off. The gears are turning in her head, and the other kids attempt to bluff Ryan and Ruth into thinking it was an anniversary of when Ryan's grandparents first met and a delayed birthday party for Ryan; respectively (Kid notes Ryan's birthday was Friday the 13th); leading into "It's Only Love". Eventually, both Ryan and Ruth announce they saw through the bluff; but the effort ultimately proved successful with Ryan admitting his pride got in the way of telling his grandmother he loved her. For her part, Ruth acknowledged she had spent too much time wallowing in self-pity, and both learned the importance of communication, setting up closing song "Someday, Someway".
